South Maui Sustainability invites the public to its monthly free community event on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Kihei Charter School in North Kihei.
The organization is a grassroots citizen’s group. Its mission is to promote sustainability awareness and action through education, grow food, produce energy and conserve and share resources.
“Our monthly community meetings will feature great speakers and many opportunities for audience involvement,” said Maury King, co-founder of the group. “We hope to inspire people to take immediate action in their daily lives and to live more sustainably and harmoniously with the ‘aina.”
The evening’s speakers are Rob Parsons and Mark Sheehan, both noted environmental stewards and activists, Maui Tomorrow board members on the Food & Energy Security Committee and the co-founders of the new Maui Food Security Blog, www.mauifoodsecurity.com.
Following the presentations, participants will divide into committees based on topics such as backyard, hui, school and community gardens, conservation, renewable energy and outreach to develop action plans.
