Upcountry high school needs donations and support.King Kekaulike High School graduating seniors will participate in Project Grad Nite 2008, a safe, alcohol- and drug-free commencement event, on Thursday, May 29.
After the commencement ceremony, graduates will be shuttled by bus to a secret location. Games, music, dancing, entertainment, prizes and food will keep them safely entertained until early morning.
This year’s graduating class consists of 325 students who are 100 percent dependant on community donations and support for this event.
“This is not a Department of Education function,” said Chairperson and Parent Volunteer Fanchette Robinson, “but a parent-driven event, planned, coordinated and supervised by the PTSA [Parent, Teacher, Student Association].”
The entire cost of Project Grad Nite is funded through monetary donations, grants and in-kind contributions. Door prizes, including gift cards for clothes, electronics, nails, etc. are also welcome donations.
Contributors and donors will receive thanks in select local newspapers, including The Maui News and the Maui Weekly.
Mail donations (checks) to: KKHS PTSA, 121 Kula Hwy., Pukalani, HI 96768.
Those requesting more information and a federal identification number, or seniors who have not yet registered for the event, should contact Robinson at 573-7644 or fanch.robinson.808@gmail.com.
