Maui Cheer Babes Tryouts

Open call for positive and determined cheerleaders.

The Maui Cheer Babes All-Star Competitive Cheerleading Team will be holding tryouts for their 2008-09 season. Children between the ages of 8 and 13 who are interested in trying out should have a positive and determined attitude and be able to execute a round-off back handspring.  If anyone is interested in trying out, please contact head coach Sue Martin at 276-9781, so that you may begin practicing for the tryouts immediately. Tryouts will be held on Monday, Aug. 25, Tuesday, Aug. 26, and Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Maui Elite Gymnastics Academy in Wailuku, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

Maui Cheer Babes team members work hard cheering and fundraising. The team will hold a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Star Market in Kihei, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cars will be washed for a donation of $7, and $10 for large pickups and vans. In addition, the team will be selling steak and BBQ chicken plate lunches for $7. The steak and chicken are cooked during the car wash to it is sure to be fresh and ono!

Funds generated during the car wash will go towards hosting an expert choreographer to help bring the team’s dance, stunting and overall routine up to par to compete at a higher level at a national competition in 2009.

The members of the Maui Cheer Babes All-Star Competitive Cheerleading Team are the reigning Level 2 National Champions and hope to win again at Level 3. For more information, contact Suzette Joaquin at 870-3440.
