Makule Softball League

As one softball league ends, another begins as our Makule (40 and over) Softball League takes over the South Maui Community Park field. The seven-team league began play on Monday, May 7, with three games.

In the opening game, Justin McMahon's three-run triple helped the Bruddah's get out to a 6-1 over Who's On First after three innings. Then, trailing 8-2, Who's scored six runs on seven to tie the game at eight in the sixth inning, then brought home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-8 victory.

The second game of opening night saw Wasabi come out swinging, taking an 11-1 lead over Fuego after just two innings. The score stayed the same until the fifth inning when the 10-run mercy rule took effect, giving Wasabi the win.

The night's last match-up was another mercy rule game as Blue Collar scored five runs in the first inning and coasted to a 13-0 win over Kihei Sporting Goods, who could manage only four hits.

Makule games are played Monday nights at 6, 7, and 8 p.m.

Girls Basketball League

Basketball clinics for girls ages 9 to 15 are still going on every Tuesday and Thursday at Kihei Elementary School. We're still taking registration forms, as we need more girls to sign up.

Kama'ole III Beach Park

On Friday, May 25, beginning at 8 a.m., there will be a dedication ceremony for the new ADA-compliant sidewalk and South Maui volunteer-built dune ramp at Kama'ole Beach Park III.

Southside Skate Jam

On Saturday, May 26, we're hosting the Southside Skate Jam at the Kalama Park Skatepark. All young beginning and novice skateboarders are invited to come. We'll have instructors giving tips on safe boarding as well as prize giveaways. Registration starts at 9 a.m.

Have a great week everybody!

We're always looking for volunteer help with game timing, scorekeeping and officiating. If you have spare time and an interest in helping out with a great youth program, call either myself or Jake at 879-4533, send us a message on our South Maui Parks Facebook page, or just grab your shoes and a whistle and come to the park!
