South Maui crews respond to intentionally set vehicle fires

Three vehicles were intentionally set on fire in a span of five hours from late Sunday, Nov. 11, into the next morning in the Kihei and Wailea areas, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported. Police are also investigating the incidents.

The first fire was reported at 10 p.m. Sunday at the Paradise Gardens parking lot on South Kihei Road. The flames were doused by passersby. The second fire occurred at 12:50 a.m. Monday at 143 Namau'u St. Kihei firefighters had the fire under control at 1:05 a.m. and extinguished 17 minutes later. The third fire was reported at 2:23 a.m. at Hotel Wailea. The Wailea fire crew found a Jeep and a sports utility vehicle ablaze in the hotel parking lot. The Wailea fire crew had the fires under control at 2:34 a.m. and extinguished 16 minutes later.
