SBU to Hold Toys 4 Tots Collection Drive

December 6, 2012
The Maui Weekly

In support of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and the Salvation Army's annual Toys 4 Tots toy collection drive, Street Bikers United Hawai'i - Maui County Chapter (SBU) will set up three toy collection sites on Sunday, Dec. 16, during its annual Toy Run Parade.

"Last year, the Salvation Army reported that the SBU toy collection drive collected more toys in Maui County than all other organized efforts," said Jake Jacobus, president of SBU. "With the economy as it is, I am quite sure that the need this year will be even greater than it was last year, and I want to make sure that together, we all meet that need."

All toys collected stay in Maui County.

If your business or organization participates in this year's toy collection drive, SBU will make every effort to provide a public platform in which your representative can announce your efforts and present any other information that you would like to share about your business at one of SBU's three publicly scheduled functions.

Arrange delivery of the toys you collect to a nearby SBU collection site (see sidebar). The Salvation Army will provide collection trucks at each location. SBU may also pick up of toys collected with prior arrangement.

"Please pass this information along to all your friends, colleagues, business associates and other contacts," added Jacobus. "The more people and businesses that we can reach for this toy drive, the more keiki we can provide for. So please, reach out to everyone that you know that might have the means to help out in any way that they can."

SBU is also seeking sponsors to provide items and services from local businesses for door prizes and the silent auction for the event finale at the Kihei VFW, as well as cash donations.

Horizons Academy of Kihei has donated a Harley Davidson motorcycle for the grand door prize at the finale.

"Led Zepplica" will provide the evening's entertainment.

The SBU Maui Toy Run is a 501(C) 3 not-for-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible. Tax information is available through sbumaui.org.

All net proceeds go to our island's keiki through SBU Maui's children's charities.

For more information or to arrange for toy pickup, visit sbumaui.org/toys or email Jacobus at president@sbumaui.org.
