A backyard composting and vermicomposting workshop will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
The workshop will introduce composting, how it happens, different methods and what materials can be composted. Materials that can be composted make up approximately 50 percent of what is thrown away per home every day.
Composting is a natural process that breaks down organic waste and transforms it into a valuable nutrient rich soil amendment, prefect for gardens, lawns and houseplants. It is nature's way of recycling and has many environmental benefits.
The workshop will take place at the MOA Center located at 164 Kamehameha Avenue in Kahului. More detailed directions are available at joyofworms.com.
There is a $10 charge per person and any one who is interested in composting is encouraged to attend.
Earth Machine bins will be for sale as well as worms and Worm Factory bins.
Call Wilma Nakamura at 573-3911 to register.
The event is presented by SharingAloha.
