Celebrating its 35th year, the Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk scheduled across the state in May is sponsored by the Hawai'i Lodging & Tourism Association (HLTA) along with other lodging and travel partners, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and COX Media Group Honolulu.
Proceeds benefit hundreds of local charities, with the funds raised staying on each island. Last year, over 12,000 walkers statewide raised a record-breaking $1,455,614.
"The Charity Walk brings our industry together in a spirit of giving," said Julie Arigo, general manager of the Waikiki Parc and statewide chair of the 2013 HLTA Visitor Industry Charity Walk. "It's a wonderful event, truly inspiring and fun, a happy day spent with friends raising funds to benefit every one of our island communities."
With the theme "Put Your Best Slippah Forward," the charity walk will take place on Maui, Kaua'i and Hawai'i Island on May 11, Molokai and Lana'i on May 4, and O'ahu on May 18.
Event participation is open to all, not just lodging industry employees. For more information and walker applications, visit www.CharityWalkHawaii.org and www.HawaiiLodging.org or call Maui's Charity Walk representatives Lisa Paulson or Laura Echiverri of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association at (808) 244-8625.
Since its inception in 1978, the Charity Walk has raised over $24.7 million for Hawai'i's charities such as Aloha Independent Living, Alzheimer's Association, Special Olympics Hawai'i, the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawai'i and more.
